As we dive into #DryJanuary, many friends from the Sèchey community have sent me articles on the U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy’s recent advisory. His report draws attention to a significant yet often overlooked truth: alcohol is a preventable cause of cancer, contributing to approximately 100,000 cancer cases and 20,000 cancer-related deaths annually in the U.S.

This timely reminder is why I started Sèchey and a chance to share my personal philosophy on alcohol - that it is YOUR choice what is in your glass.
In 2019, I committed to my first 30 days alcohol-free, thanks to Annie Grace and her book, The Naked Mind. Excited by the concept of a brand focused on alternatives to alcohol, I reserved the domain name in 2020. By June 2021, Sèchey officially launched. The goal? To provide diverse, non-alcoholic alternatives and promote healthier lifestyle choices. Many friends, family and colleagues questioned why I would leave a lucrative, enjoyable career to pursue this idea - some even said what is the point of drinking an alcohol free beverage?
But here I am - kicking off 2025 with a thriving flagship on King Street, a multi-brand ecommerce store at Sèchey.com and a line of dealcoholized wine carried at major retailers around the country.
At Sèchey, our #DrinkLessLiveMore philosophy is about empowering you to decide what’s in your glass—without judgment. Whether you’re navigating sobriety, exploring moderation, or simply curious about the world of non-alcoholic options, the choice is yours.
While alcohol is often associated with reducing stress, fostering social connections, or enhancing meals, non-alcoholic alternatives now offer many of the same benefits—without the risks. That’s why Sèchey exists: to make mindful choices accessible, inclusive, and enjoyable.
The Bottom Line
Sèchey means “dryish.” We’re not about all-or-nothing; we’re about thoughtful balance. Not everyone can moderate, and that’s okay. Always consult with your healthcare provider to find what works for you.
Let’s use this moment, and the momentum of #DryJanuary, to reflect on our habits, explore new options, and celebrate a more intentional, inclusive way of socializing. 🥂✨
Stay curious, stay choiceful,
Emily
